Digital I

General Tips

  1. Make sure you charge your batteries as we will be taking hundreds of photos during the course. Bring a spare battery if you have one. If possible also bring your charger as there is some opportunity to charge your battery throughout the day.
  2. Clear your memory card so that you have lots of space for pictures during the day.
  3. You will not need a tripod for this class.
  4. Bring a lense for this course. Only one lens is required but please bring all of your favourites so you can try them out through the day! Also bring prime (single-focus) lenses if you have them.
  5. Lunch and snacks are provided. Please let us know ASAP if you have any dietary restrictions.
  6. Course notes and a quick reference guide are included in the session. You may wish to bring extra paper and pen to take notes but most of our students get through the day and remember what is taught without supplementary notes.

Outdoor Season (May – September)

  1. Courses take place in Downtown Calgary from 10am to 4pm. We will be starting at Eau Claire underneath the Windmill in the small water park.
  2. Your class will finish in approximately the same location at around 4pm.
  3. The majority of the course is outdoors. Please dress appropriately for conditions. This includes warm clothing, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug-spray and other possible requirements. Watch out for the possible course cancellation approximately 24 hours in advance to the start of the course. You can find our weather cancellation policy in the terms and conditions located here.
  4. There is approximately 2 km of walking throughout the day. If you have a very large zoom lens you may want to consider leaving it at home instead of carrying it throughout the day. We can perform the vast majority of exercises with standard lenses.

Indoor Season (October – April)

  1. Courses take place at Heritage Park located at 1900 Heritage Drive SW from 10am to 4pm.
  2. Parking at Heritage Park costs 5.00 for a full seven hours.

  2. Note: there is limited 2-hour parking by the barracks. We suggest parking instead by the Canmore ArtsPlace (there is a parking lot close to the centre).
  3. We will be spending most of the day outside, so please be prepared for anything! Mountain weather can be quite unpredictable. That being said, we suggest bringing only what you need – if you have a few extra lenses you want to try out, bring them! But a tripod isn’t necessary, as we will be doing lots of walking down beautiful trails. During winter we will be moving inside to warm up at frequent intervals, but the majority of the course is being run outside. So please dress very very very warmly as you will enjoy the day immeasurably more if you are toasty warm :D.
  4. Wear comfortable shoes! (You are in a mountain town after all). Closed-toed shoes are preferred!
  5. Weather is variable to change so dress in layers. Plenty of warm, comfy layers – especially in the winter months!
  6. Please pay close attention to our weather cancellation policy below.
