Canada’s wildlife will not disappoint if you know where, and how to best capture these beautiful animals. Always remember to be respectful of the animal’s space, as to not scare it away or alter its behavior.
Shoot Early in the Morning
First of all, you will want to shoot pretty early in the morning. The first hour of sunlight each day is known as the golden hour. This is when the sun leaves a beautiful warm glow, and can really enhance your photographs. This means getting up early! Another added bonus of shooting during golden hour is that most mountain animals are going to be active during this time. If you wait till later in the day, you probably aren’t going to see much.
Choose a Telephoto Lens
When shooting wildlife, a telephoto lens is most likely the best bet for your camera. This lens will let you to zoom, allowing you to respect the animal’s space while capturing a beautiful image. However, don’t be afraid to experiment with other lenses within your kit as you get started. This will help you develop your own style and learn what you do and don’t like.
Have Patience
Shooting wildlife is much different than shooting a model or event. In nature, you don’t know when a wild animal is going to decide to grace you with its presence. This means you should expect a lot of sitting and waiting. However, all of that waiting is so worth it when you are able to photograph that magnificent mountain animal.
