Are you considering a new camera and not sure what solution is right for you? Should you invest in a simple “point and shoot” (also known as a compact) camera or invest in a more robust digital SLR system? Your choice of camera depends largely on what you want to use it for and of course, your budget.
A point and shoot camera is exceptionally compact and light so it can easily be taken anywhere because it will fit conveniently into your pocket or purse. If you’re not overly concerned about getting that award-winning photo, and more interested in the convenience of quickly capturing a moment then a compact camera could be exactly what you are looking for.
The moment you start finding yourself disappointed with the photos you’re getting from a point and shoot because you can’t get the special effect you envisioned, you will want to think about moving towards a Digital SLR solution.
The major difference between a point and shoot camera and a Digital SLR camera is that, you don’t have the ability to control what your photo will look like with the former. With a Digital SLR camera, you have way more control over the quality of your photos due to additional features and special lenses. However, because of their robust nature, Digital SLR cameras are far more expensive, and typically heavier and bulkier than the lightweight compact camera. This means they are not very portable and are less attractive for travelling or carrying around on a day to day basis.
If you want to take a closer look at various Digital SLR cameras check out our upcoming workshop where we’ll be going through our 5 top picks. We’ll be talking a lot more in details about the advantages to the different cameras, the kinds of things that you should be looking for when you’re purchasing a new camera, and some of the reasons why we picked our top five cameras.
