Every aspiring photographer needs to find their cache of go-to photo spots in their area. Whether you enjoy photographing nature’s beauty or revel in capturing the human aspects of high-density urban living, you should have a few spots in mind that you can go to and capture the shots you’re looking for.

If you’re a new photographer in the Edmonton area, you need to take some time to get to know your surroundings. Even if you’ve been capturing parts of Edmonton for years, there might be a few spots that you’re still not familiar with.

Depending on what type of photos you’re looking to take, there might be a spot or two that are better than others. Here are a few popular photo spots in the Edmonton area:

Ezio Farone Park

The first spot we’d like to highlight is an amazing open space just south of Jasper Avenue. This beautiful green park was named after an Edmonton police office that was killed in the line of duty. This popular picnic spot overlooks the Saskatchewan River and the High Level Bridge and has amazing views of the city from the north.

If you’re looking for a great romantic photo, beat the sun out of bed for a few shots at sunrise or head out to the park a bit before sundown to take advantage of the diffused evening light to capture Edmonton’s colorful sunsets.

High Level Bridge Street Car

For the lomography aficionado, the High Level Bridge Street Car provides many opportunities to use analog functions to capture vintage, quirky photos. The streetcar will give you opportunities to shoot across the High Level Bridge, capture the art of the graffiti tunnel, or photograph the sights of the Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market.

There are two locations where you can hop on the streetcar. If you want to travel south, board the streetcar at the North Terminus, located in Jasper Plaza, north of 100 Avenue between 109 Street and 110 Street. If you’re looking for photos while traveling northbound, board the train at the South Terminus near Old Strathcona, located at Gateway Boulevard and 84 Avenue.

The Midway at Edmonton Park

If you’re looking for a great family photo, the vintage Ferris wheel at Fort Edmonton Park is calling your name. Families have been capturing amazing portraits here for years. In fact, the historical site is North America’s largest interactive historic park. It covers the history of Edmonton dating back 150 years.

There are several options for fantastic photos at the park. Pile the family into the Ferris wheel buckets or move over to the carved carousel horses for a great group shot. If you’re looking for a professional portrait, head on up to the Ernest Brown Studio building for a fun-filled family photo shoot.

Connors Hill

If you’ve got history living in the Edmonton area, you already know that the area is known for its’ unique outdoor recreation opportunities located in an urban setting. Connors Hill is one of the best spots in Edmonton to capture scenic photos of the city and its’ recreation environment. Be sure to bring a tripod for night shooting when visiting this steep slope that’s home to the Edmonton Ski Club in the winters.
