It’s that time of year again! The weather is beginning to cool down a bit and summer vacations are winding down. As you get ready to embark on your first day of school, there is probably something else in the back of your mind: Picture day. Instead of another awful school picture on your parent’s wall or in the yearbook for a year, here are some photographer-approved tips for looking your best on picture day!
PS: These don’t only apply to school pictures!
Pick an Outfit that Compliments Your Skin Tone
Your picture will probably only show your top, so pick something that compliments your natural skin tone. Warmer skin tones should go with warmer colors like orange, gold, or yellow. Cooler skin tones look best in bright blue, deep purple and lavender. Neutral skin tones look best in light pinks, placid blues, and other neutral colors.
Don’t Wear a Busy Pattern – Keep it Simple
Wearing a neon color or something with a crazy pattern or text will become distracting. Try to stick to solid colors or a simple pattern at most for the most flattering image.
Don’t Try Anything Without Practice
Don’t wait till the morning of picture day to try that new hairstyle or winged eyeliner for the first time! Practice makes perfect, so make sure you are absolutely confident in the style you choose. Keep in mind the “keep it simple” tip above when it comes to your hair and makeup. This will ensure you don’t have a morning crisis while getting ready!
Smile!
Last, but certainly not least, smile! Practice your smile in front of the mirror to find what kind of smile you are most confident wearing. Have a parent or friend take some test photos so you get an idea of what you think looks best. Bring your confidence with you when you sit down for the photo and you are sure to be pleased with the end result.
