  1. Practice on Friends & Family

Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to photographing human subjects. Offer your friends and/or family a free photoshoot so that you can begin honing in on your skills and building a portfolio. Use this opportunity to get comfortable directing your subjects and capturing those beautiful, natural moments. With ideal temperatures outside, your friends and family would be crazy not to take you up on your offer!

Pay attention and capture the perfect action shot! Photography is usually allowed at most sporting events, but you may want to double check before heading out.

The bright summer sun will give you several opportunities to play with light. Whether you want to wake up early to catch the golden hour, or see how the light reflects off the water towards the end of the day, there is always some beauty in the light. Don’t be afraid to take some risks while practicing to see what works and what doesn’t when it comes to natural light and the settings you use on your camera.
