5 Reasons to be a Wedding Photographer

Home » News » 5 Reasons to be a Wedding Photographer

As many photographers look to take something that was once a hobby to a more professional level, it can be scary not knowing which direction to turn. Professional photographers often wonder if wedding photography is the right move. Here are 5 reasons you may want to consider shooting a wedding, and many more!

  1. Great Networking Opportunity

Where do people find their wedding photographers? Usually at weddings! You would be surprised how many connections can be made during just one event you work. Obviously shooting a wedding is a ton of work, but there will definitely be opportunities to mingle and connect with others. Not to mention, the happy couple will most likely provide a glowing recommendation to all of their friends and family if they are happy about their shoot.

  1. Steady Work

At least for the foreseeable future, there is not going to be any shortage of weddings – all in need of photographers. With weddings all year round, photographers have plenty of opportunities for wedding shoots. Weddings are also booked up to a year, sometimes more, in advance- allowing photographers to plan their schedules ahead of time.

  1. Leads to Lifetime Work

With a successful engagement and wedding shoot, photographers tend to be the new family’s go-to person for all their picture needs. Wedding photography can open up the door for maternity shoots, newborn photos, and family pictures for a lifetime. So, even if weddings aren’t your favorite thing to shoot – they can help you get exposure and new photography opportunities.

  1. Weddings are Lucrative

Weddings are usually pretty big events. For a photographer they often require hours of pre-planning, an entire day (sometimes the whole weekend) for the wedding, and hours of processing afterwards. So, they are definitely a lot of work. However, with a lot of hard work comes a nice paycheck. Many photographers choose to photograph weddings because the payoff allows them to pay the bills and explore other areas of photography when they aren’t doing a wedding.

  1. Be Your Own Boss

Lastly, wedding photographers don’t need a studio. This is the ideal situation for someone who is just starting to work as a professional. Owning a studio means a lot of overhead costs. For wedding photographers, they simply need to invest in their gear and other equipment to begin working. They also only have themselves to report to (and clients, of course).
